Project Description
Rosette Royale is a very talented and skilled writer living in the Seattle area. He’s received a number of awards for his work, and had been looking for a way to expand his horizons and gain greater exposure.
Because Rosette is a good friend of mine, I was eager to take up the task of designing and building his portfolio website for him. We discussed colors, design, layout, and organization at great length, and I created something that surprised and delighted him. The logo is his signature (as his handwriting is rather unique), and the overall design of the site focuses more on words than on media. It is more text-oriented to accommodate Rosette’s profession and his love of the written language.
The website was built using ExpressionEngine, XHTML, CSS, and a little bit of Javascript. All website content is dynamically-driven, and completely editable. I launched the initial website on September 11th, 2009, and will be providing a beta-launch to include such features as photo slideshows, streaming podcasts, and other multi-media goodies in the next few months.
Updated April 19th, 2010: new Multimedia section and minor website redesign.
Rosette has recently begun producing podcasts and videos. We’d planned on adding a multimedia section to his site to accommodate this new activity, and on April 19th, we launched it! Now Rosette can post video/podcast updates to his site, using YouTube to publish his videos (for greater exposure), and Podbean to publish his podcasts to the iTunes directory.
Additionally, I made some minor changes to the website’s design. I widened the main column (on the left), to make articles and blog posts more readable. The previous design with the narrower column simply made any body of text appear excessively long (even blog posts of 500 words or less). As well, I modified a few design elements. Overall, the website design has a much more polished look, and both Rosette and I are very pleased with the outcome.
