Project Description

The Pacific Northwest 505 Fleet is a group of boating enthusiasts who race and sail their 505 boats around the Puget Sound. One of their members approached me to build a website for them, where fleet members could interact with each other, post information about themselves and their boats, stay up to date on regatta information, and so on. It was also to serve as an information website for anyone curious about the Pnw505 Fleet.

After I submitted a series of designs to my Pnw505 contact, I made a few minor adjustments and received final approval from him. I then built a custom-made CMS that the Pnw505 members could use to update information on the site, as well as their personal information. I used MySQL, PHP, a PHP-framework called CodeIgniter, HTML, CSS, and Javascript to achieve the desired results. This was the first serious web development project I’d ever undertaken, and I was happy with the end-result. It was an excellent crash-course in the process of designing, planning, and implementing a dynamically-driven website.

Pacific Northwest Fleet 505 Website: Member Sign-In Box

Whenever an outside user tries to access a restricted section (in this case, "Fleet Contact Info"), this Member Sign In box pops-up, requesting sign-in credentials. If the user is a member, they're forwarded to the page they were trying to reach. If not, they receive an error message, and get booted out to the main page.

Pacific Northwest Fleet 505 Website: Post An Article Page

On this page, members can post their own articles to the News & Gossip and For Sale sections. Note that they can also upload new images to go with the article, or use an image in the image repository.

Pacific Northwest Fleet 505 Website: Member Dashboard

Website members have access to their own individual dashboards, where they can update their contact information, add photos of themselves, and change their passwords. As well, if they've recently posted an article or image to a restricted section (such as Images & Video), the article/image needs to be approved by the site admin before it goes live on the site.
