About the Blog
As I’ve mentioned throughout this site, I’m very passionate about what I do. It is a driving force in my life, and is highly fulfilling. As a result, I tend to talk about it. At length. To everyone I know. I suspect that this blog will be no exception.
Hopefully, my quirky interests and odd sense of humor won’t confuse/infuriate you. If they do, well, I won’t be offended if you decide to read the musings of someone more interesting than little ol’ me.

11.6.09, 09:49am | Blogging/Writing, Eating Habits, Environment, NaBloPoMo,
Welp, I didn’t write my blog entry yesterday. Le sigh. I did see this possibility emerging on the horizon around 5pm last night, when I had been wrestling with a stubborn piece of Javascript for several hours. No end was in sight and I was starting to get the feeling that by the time I finally defeated my troublesome foe, I wouldn’t have the brain-power left to write anything worth reading.
But that was only half-true. At quarter to seven, with the assistance of my wonderful code-minded man, the beast was slain and I was finished for the night. Blogging time now, yes? Nope. The aforementioned wonderful man had trudged through bitter fall weather to bring me dinner and wine. Was I really going to gobble down dinner and then seclude myself for an hour or so of writing? Hell no, I was going to enjoy my hub’s company, eat our dinner and drink our wine whilst watching a movie called “Death Hunt”. And eat pie at the end of it!
It was a fine night, and a much needed break from a long day of work. I’ll still attempt to pursue this lofty dream of “a blog a day”, although I can see some other trouble spots showing up in the distance: a weekend in Birch Bay in a few weeks, and four days in California visiting in-laws for Thanksgiving with questionable internet access. Hmm… we shall see.
I can already tell that the hardest part of changing our way of eating is going to be in situations like last night: I’m tired, hungry, and in no mood to cook; the kitchen is a mess, and would need to be cleaned before a “sustainable” dinner could be created; and we have an easy out, namely, the grocery store just three blocks away. They have a fine selection of all of our favorite comfort foods (baguettes, cheese, salami, steaks, bags of chips, etc, etc), plus a decent variety of beer and wine.
Oh bugger. We may be screwed. Even before my vanquishing hero had come home with sustenance, as I was getting hungrier and hungrier I was getting hit with progressively stronger cravings for my favorite processed/packaged foods: hot pockets, ice cream, and mac ‘n cheese.
The challenge in this process is going to be two-fold. 1.) find recipes for dishes that satisfy these cravings for comfort food effectively, and 2.) learn to plan ahead, so we’re never in the situation that allows us to use the “easy-out” grocery store.
We may be in for some rough waters ahead, boy-oh.
