About the Blog

As I’ve mentioned throughout this site, I’m very passionate about what I do. It is a driving force in my life, and is highly fulfilling. As a result, I tend to talk about it. At length. To everyone I know. I suspect that this blog will be no exception.

Hopefully, my quirky interests and odd sense of humor won’t confuse/infuriate you. If they do, well, I won’t be offended if you decide to read the musings of someone more interesting than little ol’ me.

NaBloPoMo has begun!

11.1.09, 02:35pm | Blogging/Writing, Environment, NaBloPoMo, Tech,

Today marks the first day of my participation in NaBloPoMo: National Blog Posting Month. Unlike NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), in which you write a 5,000 words a day for the month of November, participants in NaBloPoMo write one blog entry a day for the span of a month of their choosing. I’m sticking with November, though, so I can empathize effectively with my NaNoWriMo buddies.

My theme for this project is “Reducing my environmental impact.” I’ll be blogging about about a number of environmental topics, such as ways to reduce your impact through better use of electronics and technology, and web/print resources to help you diagnose and improve your “footprint”. Additionally, I’ll assess my own impact, explore new ways in which I can become more environmentally sustainable, and share my discoveries along the way.

I’m really excited for this project, not only because I’ll be exercising my writing brain, but also because I’ll be forced to account for my own environmental impact and try to markedly improve it. This may sound like utter torture to some of you. To me, however, it’s an opportunity to put my money where my mouth is. I like to think of myself as a environmentally-minded person, and yet I know that I could be doing more, to both reduce my impact and educate others to help them reduce theirs. I don’t intend on being evangelical about this, however, and my main goal is to stay off of the ol’ soapbox most of the time. I’m not a fan of being preached at, so I’ll try to keep my own preaching to a minimum.

There are a couple of ways you can receive updates on my progress over the next month. Twitter folks can follow me as Watson_Design, while Facebook users can fan my Watson Design fan page. Or, you can check me out on NaBloPoMo’s November 2009 Blogroll, under Education or General (as soon as they add my link, that is), or on my Watson Design NaBloPoMo Blog. And for those of you with RSS readers, you can always add my Watson Design Blog RSS feed.

Tomorrow I’ll begin my impact assessment and post the tools I’ll be using. Glee! See you then!

And in true NaNoWriMo tradition, here’s a Wordle image of my first blog post. Enjoy!
